What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient healing practice rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that restores balance and harmony within the body. It involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific points along energy pathways (meridians), to stimulate the body’s natural ability to heal.

At CL Health & Wellness Clinic, we use acupuncture to help manage pain, reduce stress, regulate energy flow, and support overall physical and emotional wellbeing.

How It Works

Acupuncture works by stimulating the nervous system and increasing circulation, which triggers the release of endorphins — the body’s natural pain-relieving and mood-enhancing chemicals. These biochemical changes promote healing, reduce inflammation, and balance the flow of energy (Qi) throughout the body.

This time-tested therapy is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) for its proven effectiveness in treating a wide variety of conditions.

What to Expect During a Session

Your first visit includes a consultation to review your health history and discuss your goals. Your practitioner will create a personalized treatment plan and gently insert fine, sterile needles at selected points. Most clients feel minimal to no discomfort — many even fall asleep during the session.

Needles may remain in place for 20 to 45 minutes, depending on your treatment plan. Afterward, you may feel deeply relaxed, rejuvenated, and balanced..

FAQ’s about Acupuncture:

  • Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are very thin, most people report feeling little to no pain, with some experiencing a slight pinch or pressure. A well hydrated person may feel no pain.

  • What should I expect during a session?

First time appointments may take up to an hour as we collect a health history, a consent for treatment, and the treatment. Follow up sessions are 30-45minutes depending on what is being treated. The client may be asked to lie down to insert needles.

  • What should I wear?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to the acupuncture points for placement of needles.

  • Is acupuncture safe?

While acupuncture is generally considered safe, especially when performed by a qualified practitioner, potential risks include bruising, bleeding at the site, or in rare cases fainting or infection. At CL Health & Wellness Clinic our acupuncturist are licensed with several years experience and registered with MARA.

  • How many sessions are required?

Individual responses to acupuncture can vary. The number of sessions depends on the individual and the condition being treated. Some conditions may require a few sessions, while others may need a longer course of treatment.

  • Is acupuncture covered by insurance?

Coverage depends on the individuals contract with the insurance provider. Please check with your insurance company.
